PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of ERP consulting, and its impact on the business environment.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Analyse error messages.
  • Establish the underlying cause by following guidelines within the error message.
  • Apply appropriate remedial action within the scope of the End User.
  • Analyse call centre feedback on problem areas.
  • Formulate appropriate detailed description of the problem.
  • Select the appropriate channel for reporting the problem. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • End-user Computing at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication skills at NQF level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • This unit standard is meant to give learners an understanding of the connection between business enabling systems and the processes they support.
  • Learners are expected to gain an awareness of the manner in which Business systems, and ERP systems in particular, can add value in a business environment.
  • This unit standard alone will not give learners comprehensive technical expertise in ERP or Business systems.
  • The unit standard relies on the learners awareness of some aspect of the business functionality, be it through direct experience or observation. 

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Analyse error messages. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A distinction is made between the various types of error messages applicable to the specific ERP system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    At least three (3) examples are provided for each type of error message, outlining the category and level of error indicated in each case. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Establish the underlying cause by following guidelines within the error message.

    Guidelines are followed for troubleshooting error messages to establish the underlying cause of the error. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The causes of errors are classified using the appropriate categories.

    Categories of errors include but are not limited to Master Data, User Training, Configuration, Authorisation.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Apply appropriate remedial action within the scope of the end-user.

    Appropriate remedial actions are undertaken by following the guidelines provided.

    A decision is made as to whether the indicated remedial action resides within the scope of the end-user.

    Analyse call centre feedback on problem areas.

    Call centre problems in specific problem areas are identified from a call centre follow up report. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A table is prepared based on the report that depicts the common problem areas encountered and the resolutions provided.

    Formulate appropriate detailed description of the problem.

    The key elements of a correctly formulated problem description are identified using real examples.

    Identify and apply appropriate problem-reporting guidelines within the scope of the end-user.

    The problem reporting channels that are available are identified within the context of the end user's work environment.

    Problem reporting guidelines are followed to select the appropriate channel for reporting the problem.
