PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the methodology used to define a business process and the role of the Consultant and in defining a business process, as well as the concept of "Business Process Improvement",

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Describe the way in which a business process is defined
  • Identify the instruments or tools used to capture a business process
  • Explain Business Process Improvement with reference to its importance within an organisation
  • Identify opportunities for business process improvement
  • Understand the concept of flowcharts for business processes
  • Draw up and evaluate the flowcharts of the organisation
  • Analyse and document the elements of a business process

    The role of the consultant and the end-user in defining a business process is outlined in terms of their responsibilities.

    The methodology for defining a business process is outlined with a view to understanding its application within an organisation.

    An overview of a flowchart is given in order to demonstrate its role in depicting business processes.

    The basic flowchart notations are analysed in context to their specific functions.

    Draw up and evaluate the flowcharts of the organisation.

    The flowcharts of an organisation are analysed to demonstrate how they are applied in practice.

    The flowchart for a chosen business process is drawn to demonstrate both its application and the correct use of the relevant notation.
