PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to select tools, equipment and materials for marking and cutting of multi-lay fabric in a safe and productive manner.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing equipment, tools and workstation.
  • Preparing fabric, templates and lays for marking out components.
  • Planing and marking fabric for cutting
  • Cutting out upholstery components from multi-lay ups. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy equivalent to NQF level 2. They will also have achieved, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence to, the National Certificate in Furniture Upholstery (Wood), NQF level 2.

    Upholstery fabrics, templates and lays are checked with specification and confirmed to be correct

    Fabrics are checked for defects and faults

    Fabrics, templates and lays not to specification is rectified, replaced and reported to the relevant person

    Fabrics are correctly matched for colour

    Fabric is correctly rolled out and folded true and flat in required multi-layers on the cutting table
