PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the core category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes. Learners who are assessed competent with this unit standard are able to determine material requirements, quantities, times and supply as well as identify and describe control procedures for monitoring materials used when maintaining machines and equipment. Learners will also be able to monitor the usage of raw materials, chemicals and lubricants. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes at NQF Level 3 or equivalent qualification. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Materials will include those that are input materials and excludes those out of direct control, such as water, steam, air and electricity.

Materials will include but will not be limited to:
  • Oils.
  • Greases.
  • Lubricants.
  • Cleaning solvents.

    Appropriate requisitions for material requirements are compiled in accordance with company policies and procedures.

    Material requirements are identified and calculated according to company specifications.

    Material requirements are recorded and ordered by type, grade, quantity and timeframes according to company requirements.

    Flammable, corrosive and other dangerous or corrosive chemicals and products are stored safely according to safe storing regulations.

    Materials, chemicals and lubricants are supplied to various points in maintenance sections applying safety regulations.

    Allowances for wastage are calculated for all situations and materials are documented according to laid down policies and procedures.
