PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of this unit standard is that credited learners are able to test drivers to determine if their knowledge driving is at the standard required for learner's licensing. Learners credited against this unit standard are capable of identifying applicants and administering the prescribed prerequisites for a learner's licence as required by legislation in South Africa. Application of this set of competence will ensure that appropriately licensed learner drivers enter the traffic system, thus promoting driver competence and contributing to road safety, and minimising loss of life and associated economic costs in South Africa. This unit standard influences adherence to traffic rules and promotes traffic safety.
This unit standard also allows for transformation with the traffic policing profession, as learners become models for other learners. This attracts quality people and allows for the aspirations of people to be part of the traffic policing profession. The recognition of prior learning will formalise informal and non-formal leaning and learners will be able to obtain credits towards a national qualification. The typical scope of this unit standard is related to the traffic environment, namely, examiner for learner's licences. The typical context is embedded in the National Road Traffic Act. Learning credited will reflect the ability to develop a rigorous approach to the acquisition of a broad knowledge base regarding examination for learner's licensing. Credited learners can employ a range of specialised learner's licensing examination skills, and determine solutions to a variety of unpredictable problems during learner's licensing examination, often including a range of varied and specific contexts involving creative and non-routine activities. They can exercise appropriate judgement in presenting test results. |
