PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The purpose of this unit standard is that learners are capable of identifying vehicle fitness status and taking suitable action at the roadside if and when required.

Application of the competencies attained against this unit standard contributes towards the prevention of accidents and reduction of road maintenance cost. Vehicles that do not conform to the National Road Traffic Act and Regulations contribute to the serious national problem of maintaining roads and safety on South African roads. Competent vehicle fitness examination at the roadside is the first line of defence and contributes to minimising traffic-related costs thereby improving the South African economy.
