PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard in combination with context expertise standard(s) will be able to facilitate, provide appropriate support and assist with the various project implementation requirements. This skill will enable the learner to act as the primary social facilitator and intermediary between community members and other project role-players using participatory methods where relevant. While at this level the person will work to a large extent on his or her own, it is likely that this work will be done under the supervision of a project coordinator. This will contribute towards effective sanitation project implementation and delivery of sustainable sanitation interventions to people. Achieving this unit standard will enhance the efficiency of the qualifying learner and advance his / her own expertise and employability in sanitation and other related sectors. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Literacy NQF level 2 or equivalent. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard should have sound knowledge of the construction of all elements of a Ventilated Improved Pit Toilet (VIP) and Urinary Diversion Systems (UDS) and should be able to monitor the construction of these facilities to the extent that he or she would be able to identify problems and take appropriate action, including reporting to higher authority if necessary.

  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standards as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.
