PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard will be useful to people who want to help people and communities to resolve conflicts.

Those credited with this Unit Standard are able to use Biblical models to help people to resolve conflicts and be reconciled. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that the learners are competent in Communication at NQF Level 1. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The following scope and context applies to the whole Unit Standard:
  • Case studies and simulated situations should be worked on by all learners;
  • Real situations of conflict could be deal with under the supervision of an experienced person.

    Specific range statements are provided in the body of the Unit Standard where they apply to particular specific outcomes or assessment criteria.

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Identify and describe possible causes of conflict in a community. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Causes of conflict include, but are not limited to: different views of morals, religion, politics, culture, witchcraft, crime, HIV/AIDS. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A particular, real community is identified in order to contextualise community dynamics. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Particular causes of conflict are identified and described, drawing on personal knowledge and experience. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    At least three possible causes of conflict are described.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Areas of conflict are identified and possible causes are related to them. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Describe and explain people's reactions to the problems and the consequences of their actions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    Problems and consequences of actions are listed, drawing on personal experience. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Reactions to particular problems are accurately and impartially described with reference to blame, anger, sympathy, and other reactions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The consequences of reactions discussed, drawing on personal and general experience. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Alienation, reconciliation, etc. should be included.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Describe Biblical models of reconciliation for the conflict situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Possible Biblical interventions in a conflict situation are described, using particular examples and general principles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The Biblical basis of these interventions is explained and justified using appropriate Biblical examples and references. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Examples should be drawn from both Old Testament and New Testament and from a variety of situations.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Biblical examples of reconciliation are given by citing personalities such as Jesus, Peter, Paul, and others. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Apply Biblical models of reconciliation for conflict situations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Biblical principles of reconciliation are listed based on the actions or reactions of personalities cited in the Bible. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Should include confession, remorse, penance, etc.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The Biblical principles are appropriately applied in hypothetical situations. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Hypothetical situations (case studies or role plays), or actual conflict situations may be addressed if supervised by an experienced person.
     


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Providers of learning towards this Unit Standard will need to meet the accreditation requirements of the relevant ETQA.

    The moderation requirements of the relevant ETQA must be met in order to award credit to learners for this Unit Standard.
