PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to effectively identify the products required on the delivery document, prepare the product for delivery, ensure the product is in correct working order, move the product safety to the loading area and load the product without damage and in a safe and secure manner. Learners are also able to execute the delivery to the client and ensure client satisfaction.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing client orders for delivery.
  • Moving products to loading area.
  • Loading product onto delivery vehicle.
  • Delivering products to client. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy at NQF level 2 or equivalent as well as operating lifting machinery according to licence regulations. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Preparation for transportation could include but is not limited to: wrapping, palletizing, strapping, boxing, timbering, etc.
  • Moving products to loading area by means of: hand truck, ramps, appropriate handling equipment, lifts, trolleys, etc.
  • Safety procedures for moving products to the loading area include but are not limited to: warning lights, sirens, flags, demarcating areas, information signs, etc.
  • Loaded/packed products on delivery vehicle will include: strapping, boxing in, tying down, etc.

    Prepare client orders for delivery.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Client orders are obtained for set date delivery and sorted into area and delivery schedule as per delivery times given and route planner. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Client orders are analyse and correct product identified based on delivery documentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Product is collected and inspected for damages, completeness and accessories before it is prepared for delivery according to specifications and company guidelines. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Product is prepare for transportation according to company standards. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Move products to loading area. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Products are moved to loading area following the correct procedure and in a safe and secure manner. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Safety procedures are applied when moving the product to the loading area according to set health and safety standards and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Products are re-checked for damages once they have arrived at the loading area according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Products are re-checked for completeness against the delivery documentation once they arrive at the loading area according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Products are placed in a safe and secure location while in the loading area as per set company standards and procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Load products onto delivery vehicle.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Products are loaded onto delivery vehicle in order of planned delivery as per the delivery schedule. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Products are loaded/packed securely and the load weight in balanced according to road haulage/transport regulations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Off loading equipment is secured on delivery vehicle and accounted for on delivery schedule. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Final load is checked for safe and secure passage, correct number of items, delivery documentation, and delivery schedule and route planner according to company delivery procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Deliver products to client.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Client is contacted to confirm delivery and arrangements noted on delivery document and route planner as per set delivery standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Product is delivered to client and checked for damages and completeness before client signs the delivery document as per set standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Load is re-secured before delivery commences according to safety standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Delivery documentation is checked for signatures and notations before leaving the client as per standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Delivery documentation is submitted to authorised personnel on return and in the required timeframe.

    Products not delivered are explained and re-scheduled for delivery on confirmation with the client as per company procedures.
