PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to read and interpret the layout plan for a function and identify and collect what tools and equipment will be required. Learners are also able to safely build up the function as per the plan and check the quality of the finished product before handing it over to designated supervisor. They are also able to, after the function, break down and clear all tools and equipment used for the function in a safe manner within the required timeframe.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Interpreting a layout plan for a function.
  • Identifying and collecting tools and equipment required for build up.
  • Setting up the function and checking quality of build up.
  • Handing over to designated supervisor.
  • Breaking down and clearing tools and equipment after the function. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy at NQF level 2 or equivalent.

    Layout plan is obtained for planned function from responsible individual. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Layout plan is read and understanding is checked through questioning with the responsible individual to ensure all elements of the plan are clearly understood.

    List of requirements is developed for own planning and is in line with requirements stated on the plan.

    Identify and collect tools and equipment required for build up.

    Layout plan is read and tools for build up are identified and listed as per standard building up criteria.

    Layout plan is read and equipment required is identified and listed as per plan instruction and requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Tools and equipment are ordered/booked as per requirements of the plan developed and within required timeframe.

    Tools and equipment are obtained/collected and moved to the venue in a safe and secure manner within the required timeframe.

    Set up the function and check quality of the build up.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Equipment is assembled using correct tools and conducted in a safe manner in line with set company assembly regulations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Equipment is physically checked for safety and are secure and measured against company safety standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Finishing touches are physically checked for quality in line with set company standards and criteria.

    Hand over to designated supervisor.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Final inspection of build up is conducted following a checklist to ensure build up meets requirements of original layout plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Designated supervisor is taken through the build up to confirm safety standards and compliance to the layout. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Deviances are identified and corrected within the required timeframe and in line with company standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Venue/function is handed over to designated supervisor following company hand over procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5 
    Break down and clear tools and equipment after the function.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Equipment is broken down using correct tools and conducted in a safe manner in line with set company break down regulations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Tools and equipment are cleaned according to company standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Tool and equipment inventory is conducted and numbers collected match numbers delivered, short falls are recorded in required format and reported to responsible individual. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Tools and equipment are packed securely and returned to supplier/store in a safe manner within the required timeframe. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Venue/function area is checked to ensure all tools and equipment have been collected and the venue/function area is clean as per company standards.
