PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for all people who have to conduct auction sales. It covers all aspects of conducting the auction such as chanting, body language , pre-amble, calling and closing and finalising a sale.

The qualifying learner is capable of

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners accessing this Unit Standard will be competent in Mathematical Literacy and Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    The characteristics of an auction chant are identified and explained using recordings of auction chants

    Voice is controlled by voice projection, clarity and timing

    Eye contact is maintained by acknowledging all bids/offers

    Poise and body language is maintained by exhibiting positive stage manner and appearing at ease

    Items to be sold/auctioned are studied so that auctioneer knows the items and is able to record information for use during the sale

    The Value of items/lots to be auctioned are known so as to guide the setting of the initial bid according to industry norms and prices

    Bidding process is started in order to obtain the highest price for the item(s)
