PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for the person who is involved with the preparing and arranging of auction advertising, with the preparation for an auction, with preparing the site of an auction and with the cleaning and the repairing of items/lots for auction.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing for and arrange auction advertising.
  • Making arrangements and preparing for an auction.
  • Cleaning and repairing items/lots for auction.
  • Preparing the site for an auction. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this Unit Standard should be competent in Mathematical Literacy and Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Specialised movable property includes motor vehicles, firearms, liquor, computer hardware, computer software, radio-active equipment, items covered by copyright.
  • Documentary proof includes motor vehicle registration, firearm licenses, applicable software licenses, proof of purchase, stock registers.
  • Immovable property includes houses, flats, town houses, hotels, guest houses, office blocks, plots of land, small holdings and farms.
  • Movable property includes all assets other than immovable property.
  • Necessary equipment include, podiums, gavel, PA system, chairs and bidding cards.

    Relevant advertising media is identified according to value for money, location and typical readership in relation to the items for auction.

    A Newspaper advert is compiled and placed in the appropriate publication to meet auction requirements and budgeting restraints. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Signs and/or banners are designed according to auction requirements and erected and displayed in strategic places in accordance with local authority by-laws. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Posters are designed according to auction requirements and erected in accordance with local authority by-law.

    Leaflets are designed according to auction requirements and printed within budgeted allocation and distributed according to identified target group.

    Make arrangements and prepare for an auction.

    Necessary equipment is listed and obtained before auction begins.

    Necessary equipment is set up according to requirements and checked to be in good working order before the auction.

    Alternative plans are made in advance for implementation should any of the equipment malfunction.

    Refreshments for an auction are arranged with authorised caterers within the allocated budget.
