PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for learners working in the fundraising sector. This Unit Standard will enable the learner to analyse the qualities of a good fundraiser by being able to:
  • Describe fundraising
  • Identify and describe the characteristics of a successful fundraiser
  • Identify, assess and improve own fundraising characteristics.
  • Explain the need for effective teamwork in a fundraising context.

    It is assumed that learners accessing this qualification are competent in Communication at NQF Level 3.

    Fundraising is described and discussed in terms of the types of fundraising activities that are carried out.

    Fundraising is described and discussed in terms of the types of organisations involved in fundraising. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Fundraising is discussed in terms of employment opportunities as part of a big fundraising organisation and as an individual fundraiser working either for an individual organisation or as a freelancer working for a number of organisations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Reasons for the success and failure of fundraising initiatives are identified and discussed with examples that highlight the contribution of the individual fundraiser to the success or failure.

    Identify and describe the characteristics of a successful fundraiser.

    A base-line knowledge of self in respect of personality, interests and aptitude is established by the learner.

    The characteristics of a successful fundraiser are listed in the individual's own context.

    Own strengths and weaknesses as a fundraiser are determined with examples.

    Strategies to address shortcomings are developed and implemented where possible.

    The roles played by each person in a fundraising venture are determined and listed in writing.

    A fundraising venture is designed and the roles of each member of the team is decided upon to ensure success of the venture and to utilise the abilities of each team member optimally.
