A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Storing received fruit in required conditions for packing or despatch. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy, numeracy and communication skills at or equivalent to NQF level 2.
  • Knowledge of cold chain.
  • Knowledge of fruit characteristics.
  • Knowledge of market requirements. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The scope of this unit standard deals with storing of fruit.
  • The specific outcomes reflected in this unit standard should be performed without direct supervision, but with access to work site procedures and operating instructions.
  • Storage requirement options: RA (regulated atmosphere), CA (controlled atmosphere).
  • Fruit storage: Binned and packed fruit.
  • Fruit protocols: Temperature, humidity, time in storage, rotation requirements.
