PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare their workstation and client for a facial; they are able to recording relevant information and perform an assessment of the client's skin. Learners are able to use a facial steamer, perform an exfoliation /deep cleansing using the appropriate products and tools. They are able to apply and removing a mask and apply moisturiser on the face and décolleté according set standards

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing the facial workstation according to organisational and hygienic requirements
  • Recording all relevant information on the Client Record Card for immediate use and to update for future consultations
  • Assessing the skin in order to perform a facial by utilising appropriate equipment and skin care products
  • Operating, managing and effectively using an appropriate facial steamer according to manufacturers instructions and organisational and hygienic requirements
  • Performing exfoliation / deep cleansing of the face and décolleté using products and brush equipment
  • Selecting, managing, applying and removing a mask on the face and décolleté according to organisational and hygiene requirements
  • Selecting, managing and applying a moisturiser on the face and décolleté according to organisational and hygiene requirements

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners assessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against the National Certificate in Beauty: Manicure and Pedicure or Aesthetic Consultancy or Make-up Consultancy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent

  • A basic hygiene procedure includes the personal cleanliness, sanitation of tools, equipment, plinth / chair, area and trolley

  • Precautions include bruises and recent operations
  • Lifestyle includes occupation, exercise, stress levels and leisure activities
  • Skin assessment includes skin type and or / conditions, sebaceous secretions, moisture content, skin elasticity, muscle tone, cutaneous circulation, sensitivity, pore size, lines and wrinkles, imperfections and sun sensitivity
  • Clay masks include calamine, kaolin, magnesium, fullers earth, sulphur, oatmeal, rose water, orange flower water, distilled water, witch hazel and almond oil
  • Commercial masks include setting and non-setting

    A facial treatment plan is developed to suit the client's needs and incorporates skincare preparations
