PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard has as its core purpose, qualifying learners who will demonstrate a basic understanding of international law and economic diplomacy.

Learners will demonstrate an understanding of the United Nations and other World Organizations and the importance of such organizations in diplomacy. Important international treaties are identified and the role of these treaties in diplomacy explained. International economic structures, globalization, monetary and economic concepts will be explained.

The qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Explain the rules governing international law.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the United Nations and key world organizations.
  • Define international trade, capital and monetary concepts.
  • Explain globalization and its effects on the SA economy.

    A range of assessment methods should be used, including direct observation, product sample, simulation, questioning (verbal or written) and testimony (portfolio collection of evidence).

    Integrated assessment: It may be more effective and efficient to assess a number of unit standards together thus reducing the number of assessment "events". Ensure that the commonalities that exist between a number of unit standards are captured in a way that makes sense for assessment.
