PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

The person credited with this unit standard is able to apply different methods of sanitation in the working environment, explain the importance of maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Learners are also able to explain the cleaning, sanitising and sterilising of equipment, materials and tools they work with and effectively dispose of waste in their working environment.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

Demonstrating the different methods of sanitation procedures performed in the work environment in accordance with organisational and hygienic requirements

Demonstrating and explaining the importance of maintaining a clean and safe working environment

Demonstrating and explaining the cleaning, sanitising and sterilizing of equipment, materials and tools in the work environment

Demonstrating the effective procedures for dealing with waste in the work environment

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical, computer, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

Environment could include disposal bin, floors, working surfaces, display cabinets, mirrors, basins and toilets.

The beauty consultant's hands and nails are cleaned and sanitised prior to services being performed.

The correct procedure for cleaning and sterilizing any body fluid spills within the working environment is demonstrated and explained according to work site procedures.

The necessary steps to be taken to prevent transmission of infectious, non-infectious diseases and disorders of the skin are explained and demonstrated within the working environment.

The cleaning and sanitisation of tools are demonstrated and explained according to workplace procedures.

Hands and nails are cleaned and sanitised prior to services being performed.

The various waste materials including biologically contaminated waste are identified and explained according to worksite procedures.

The various waste materials disposal procedures are explained according to worksite procedures and health regulations.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

All suitable procedures for disposal of biological and non-biological waste materials in the work environment are demonstrated and explained in accordance with health and safety regulations and worksite procedures.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.

Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.

Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
