PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This Unit Standard is intended for Skills Development Facilitators, Supervisors, Team Leaders, Line Managers and people involved in Human Resource Management. The term business unit in this Unit Standard implies a small business, cost centre, section or department.

2. The difference between mentoring, coaching, counseling and training is explained and an indication is given of when each is appropriate. |

3. The roles and responsibilities of the mentor and employee to be mentored are explained and an indication is given of the relationship between the two parties. |

4. A written contract including a code of ethical conduct in the relationship is negotiated with a prospective employee to be mentored. |
