PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:

Explain structural steel detail drawing regulations, codes and practices, describe the structure and layout of drawing offices, office administration and communication procedures and plan and schedule work requirements.

The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved.

Learners who master the competence described in this unit standard will be able to apply their understanding of drawing office practice and procedures to implement effective self organisation methods in the drawing office environment which meet Occupational Health and Safety legislation and ergonomic requirements.

In addition, the learners application of structural steel regulations, codes, practices and drawing office procedures to programme planning and communication processes between drawing office and client will ensure that the time and cost implication associated with the repeated revision of drawings is minimised.

    2. The importance of developing an accurate project programme of all activities associated with a structural steelwork contract in accordance with client requirements are described (initially bar charts).

    3. The consequences of exceeding elements of a contract programme and the impact of penalties is discussed.
