PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners acquiring this standard will be learning towards obtaining a national qualification or are working within a maintenance environment, where acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to learner`s job, or chances of finding employment.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Applying standard operating procedures to fleet maintenance
  • Diagnosing faults in the fleet
  • Conducting fleet maintenance
  • Conducting evaluation and determine further course of action.

  • Learners accessing this unit standard / qualification will have demonstrated competence against numeracy and literacy as well as workplace experience in maintenance preferably at the artisan level.

  • Well defined, familiar situations within given frameworks of action and/or under supervision though there is some evidence of independence.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Apply standard operating procedures (SOP) to fleet maintenance.

    1. The relevant SOPs are listed and discussed for the area.

    2. Relevant sections of SOP are located using information literacy skills.

    3. Appropriate action is taken within set frameworks for quality, reflection, application and safety.

    1. Routine, familiar reported faults are received and processed and correct measures are taken within defined frameworks.

    2. An outline of technical knowledge of the fleet is displayed.

    3. A well-defined, familiar fault is related to the appropriate SOP.

    5. The problem is verified through the application of routine, familiar testing procedures within given frameworks only.

    Conduct fleet maintenance.

    1. Knowledge of when and how to implement routine maintenance is shown. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Basic maintenance testing procedures are known and applied in routine, familiar situations within given frameworks.

    3. Reasonable standard time for a specific and familiar task is allocated.

    4. Information regarding spares is verified for the job at hand.

    5. Job cards are compiled by gathering, sorting and processing information.

    6. Repair team are allocated to well defined, routine tasks within a given framework.

    3. A routine, familiar completed job is identified and signed off.
