PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for people who are, or seek to be, active in the area of local economic development.

It provides the learner with information about a variety of local economic concepts and associated tools for their application as well as an understanding of how this works in practice.

People credited with this Unit Standard are able to:
  • Discuss various concepts of local economic development.
  • Identify a range of tools available to implement local economic development.
  • Identify and explain some programme options for implementing local economic development.
  • Identify and explain some project options for implementing local economic development. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that the learner is competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF level 3.

  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or will assess this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
