PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who are, or who seek to be employed as the manager of a local economic development unit.

It provides the learner the opportunity to manage a local economic development unit.

People credited with this Unit Standard are able to:
  • Plan and organise the available resources to achieve identified and agreed local economic development unit key result areas
  • Monitor and review the progress towards achieving the financial and operational targets in the local economic development unit key result areas
  • Provide leadership by coaching for best practice, counselling to optimise motivation and modelling innovation as appropriate 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication at NQF Level 4.

    1. The local economic development unit staff are organised via a departmental structure and job descriptions that address the key result areas agreed.

    2. Offices, equipment and related resources are allocated among the staff to support the achievement of key result areas of the local economic development unit. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The operations plan for the unit clearly allocates projects and their related funding to staff charged with achieving the relevant results.

    Monitor and review the progress towards achieving the financial and operational targets.

    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or will assess this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQ, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
