PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Clothing Technology. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to prepare markers, cut fabric, and plan and monitor cutting work in progress. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Clothing processes. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Cutting machines will include:
  • Laser cutters.
  • Straight, circular and band knives.
  • Scissors.
  • Automatic straight cutters.
  • Single to multiple lays.
  • Includes re-cuts and new cuts.
    This standard will include cutting operations to produce garments for use in the following:
  • Formal outerwear.
  • Casual outerwear.
  • Leisurewear.
  • Intimate / sleepwear.
  • Swimwear / actionwear.
  • Knitwear.
  • Hosiery.
  • Workwear.
  • Linen.
    Fabric types will include:
  • Wovens.
  • Non-wovens.
  • Warp knits.
  • Weft knits.
  • Knitwear.
  • Lace.
  • Elastics.
    Fabrics include filament or spun yarns at a variety of weights, finishes and structures.
