PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the manufacturing on the total organisation,
  • Evaluate line balances,
  • Prepare a production line,
  • Maintain production line operations.

This unit standard is intended for a person working in a manufacturing environment who needs to lead and make decisions in a batch or continuous manufacturing environment.

The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and contribute to the upliftment and economic growth within a business and manufacturing environment.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
    Required skills and knowledge on:
  • Line operating knowledge.
  • Mathematical and statistical principles on NQF 4.
  • Economic principles NQF 3.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The scope and context of this unit standard is for a person working in a sensitive consumer manufacturing environment who needs oversee a batch or continuous production and manufacturing line.

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
Bottle necks refer to machine capacity, operator capacity, product requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
    3. Optimum daily or weekly output rates are calculated for a production run.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
    4. Lines are balanced to produce given daily or weekly quantities, and results are documented according to company practice.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
    5. Completion times are calculated for a given order and documented according to company practice.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
    6. Work in progress and batch or bundle quantities are included in calculations of production time.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7
    7. The effects of bottle-necks are minimised through balancing operatives or machines, performances, and production times according to company practice.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8
    8. Waste from the line is calculated according to standard operating procedures.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 9
    9. A production plan is produced and documented according to company practice.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
    Prepare a production line.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
