PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is intended for a person who has to monitor and control product parameters in a manufacturing environment.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Understand the role and purpose of monitoring product parameters in a manufacturing environment.
  • Assess product suitability by means of measurements, checks and simple tests.
  • Plot values and compare against control limits.
  • Take corrective action.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
  • Description of required skills: This unit standard has been designed as an introduction to the monitoring and controlling of product parameters in a manufacturing environment and does not assume prior learning or experience.
  • Communication and mathematical literacy: Persons attempting this unit standard are required to read, understand and interpret textbooks of a technical nature. It is therefore recommended that they have achieved NQF level 1 or equivalent accreditation.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The context of this unit standard includes any environment provided for specific outcomes and assessment criteria as needed.

The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the process requires a wide range of technical skills and offers a considerable choice of procedures. A broad knowledge base incorporating some theoretical concepts, analytical interpretation of information, informed judgment and a range of sometime innovative responses to concrete but often unfamiliar problems are employed. The application of this unit standard is to qualify the person for certification in advanced trade and technical occupations.
