PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is aimed at people who work or intend to work in either a chemical or another processing environment.

Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this Unit Standard will be able to demonstrate understanding of the functioning and operation of a process plant as well as the technology associated with the process.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Explain the fundamental principles of the process.
  • Explain the properties of the raw material(s) used in the process.
  • Explain the properties of the final product(s) and by-product(s) produced in this process.
  • Describe additional mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, instrumentation and utilities used in the production process.

    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against communication and mathematical literacy at NQF Level 1 or equivalent.
