PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners who demonstrate competence as described in the outcomes of this unit standard will be able to maintain the quality of products in a processing environment.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Perform quality checks on incoming materials.
  • Perform quality checks on processed products.
  • Perform quality checks on final products.
  • Take corrective action to address non conforming results. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence against mathematical literacy and literacy at NQF Level 1 or equivalent.

    Perform quality checks on incoming materials. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Incoming materials may include the incoming raw materials, consumables, components and packaging.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The impact and cost of non-conforming materials are explained as applicable to a processing environment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Quality standards for each of the incoming materials are defined in accordance with workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Samples of incoming materials are taken in accordance with operating procedure, schedule and safety requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Samples are subjected to quality checks or tests in accordance with (standard operating) instructions. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
  • Specialised quality checks such as laboratory analysis may be done by specialist entities.
  • Checks could include visual inspection, chemical analysis, physical testing, measuring with rulers, verniers, micrometers, gauges, scales, go/no go gauges, comparison to master samples, etc.
