PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners credited with this standard will be able to determine material requirements, quantities and time frames, determine material sources and supply material to various points in a particular process within textile processes.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Appropriate credits in literacy and numeracy at NQF Level 1.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
  • Materials will include raw materials, processed material and products in the manufacture of polymers, fibres, yarns, non wovens and fabrics, and includes dye stuffs and chemicals, finishes and auxiliaries.
  • Materials will include only those that are input material to the product and excludes those out of direct control such as water, steam, air and electricity, where the supply of these are monitored and found of standard appropriate adjustments are made.
  • This standard applies to processes involving the manufacturing of polymers, fibres, yarns, non-wovens and fabrics and includes the preparation, dyeing, printing and finishing.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS
Appropriate ETQAs within the Engineering Manufacturing and Technology field and the Education and Training Board for the Textile Industry will accredit providers and assessors.

    UNIT STANDARD ESSENTIAL EMBEDDED KNOWLEDGE
Learners will engage with the following knowledge components:
  • Explain the importance of meeting requirements in terms of material quantities and times.
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of the material requirements as it applies to a particular production process.
  • Understand safety as it applies the movement of material.

  • Critical Cross-field Outcomes (CCFO):

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO IDENTIFYING
Identify and solve problems at points requiring supply of materials.

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO WORKING
Work effectively with others ensuring correct flow and that material requirements are met in terms of quantities and time.

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING
Communicate effectively to ensure that materials supplied meet the requirements of those receiving them.

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO SCIENCE
Use science and technology through appropriate equipment which is used to move material from point to point.

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO CONTRIBUTING
Understand the world as being made up of a set of related systems where the consequences of unsafe transportation are recognised.

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
