PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will be useful to people who work in the audio-visual production industry and are responsible for rigging and de-rigging sound equipment .

People credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Prepare for rigging,
  • Set-up sound equipment for a production,
  • Test and modify sound equipment, and
  • De-rig sound equipment

    The credit value is based on the assumption that people starting to learn towards this unit standard are already competent in:

    This unit standard will be useful to people who work in the audio-visual production industry and are responsible for rigging and de-rigging sound equipment.

    Prepare for rigging.

    1. Preparation is carried out in accordance with supplied instructions. Were equipment needs to be ordered, the enterprise procedure is followed using the correct forms, identifying equipment accurately and completing all required information accurately.

    2. Equipment matches the inventory for accuracy.

    3. The consequences of using incorrect procedures for hiring of equipment are described in terms of the potential legal repercussions for the production and the hiring company.

    4. Faulty or non-operational equipment, if any, is identified, tested and replaced in accordance with the enterprise practise before it is needed for the production's set-up deadline.

    6. Contingency plans are established to cater for the event of equipment malfunction and back-up equipment is ensured to be available and in good working condition.

    1. Equipment is positioned and interconnected in accordance with specifications of the production or as per instructions.

    3. Equipment that is inaccessible during the production is ensured to be working before it is rigged.

    4. Equipment and cables are positioned to minimise the induction of unwanted signals.

    5. Equipment and cables are rigged so that they are safe for the participants and crew, are neat and are secure for the duration of the production.

    2. Embedded Knowledge:
    Essential embedded knowledge will be assessed through assessment of the specific outcomes in terms of the stipulated assessment criteria. Candidates are unlikely to achieve all the specific outcomes, to the standards described in the assessment criteria, without knowledge of the listed embedded knowledge. This means that for the most part, the possession or lack of the knowledge can be directly inferred from the quality of the candidate's performance. Where direct assessment of knowledge is required, assessment criteria have been included in the body of the unit standard.
