PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
To enable a person working in the air conditioning, Refrigeration or Ventilation industry to:
  • To install electrical cables, conductors and wire ways.
  • To terminate and connect electrical cables and conductors. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Use and care of basic hand tools, portable power tools and electrical test instruments.
  • Understanding the fundamentals of electricity.
  • Safe working procedures.
  • Interpret electrical, civil and mechanical drawings and sketches.
  • Identification of air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation equipment. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Cables and conductor size is limited to 16 mm˛ and 1 000 volts AC
  • Termination includes marking of cables and fitting of glands.
  • Conductors are limited to solid stranded and multi stranded.
  • Cables include single and multi-core.
  • Types of cables are those commonly used in the industry.

    Cables and/or conductors are connected as per wiring diagram and/or work site instructions.

    Waste materials are disposed of in accordance with house keeping standards.

    Necessary documentation is completed and submitted to designated personnel.

    Arrangements are made for the work to be verified, certified and tested by an accredited person in accordance with SANS 10142-1.

    Cables and conductors are checked for damage and faults that endanger life are reported immediately.

    Fixing of cables, conductors and wire ways is checked and repaired where necessary.

    Possible reasons for malfunctioning are identified and reported.
