PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to operate equipment according to manufacturer's instructions, explain functions of equipment and advise on correct accessories for equipment. This unit standard aims to demonstrate applicable product knowledge of equipment within the hiring industry.

It will also add value by having more competent people who will have both an enhanced theoretical understanding and the practical ability to understand the functions of the Hiring Sector.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Operating equipment according to manufacturers instructions.
  • Explaining functions of equipment.
  • Advising on correct accessories for equipment.
  • Identifying and explaining corrective measures for equipment failures. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in computer literacy, numeracy and language and communications at NQF level 2 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Equipment will include but not limited to: compressors, generators, pneumatic equipment, compactors, concrete mixers, power tools, lifting equipment, access equipment, water pumps, floor equipment, motor vehicles, formwork, toilets and concrete equipment etc.
  • Accessories for equipment will include but not limited to: abrasives, drilling equipment, protective clothing.
  • Safety aspects include but are not limited to: purpose and uses, areas of use, safety working and operating procedures.
