PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering; Generation; Distribution; Transmission, Construction and Renewable Energy Sector.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Identify and read fixed electrical measuring instruments
  • Identify and select portable electrical measuring instruments
  • Use And Interpret portable electrical measuring instruments
  • Care for portable electrical measuring instruments

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

    1. Electrical measuring instruments are handled in accordance with their specifications.

    2. Electrical measuring instruments are correctly applied to circuits and equipment when testing.

    3. Multimeters are set up for the correct function and scale of measurement in accordance with manufacturers specifications.

    4. Meters and instruments must be placed and stored in accordance with manufactures specifications and worksite standards.
